@pinkprius If I were the worker in that case, I'd prefer working 4-6 hours a day and have 2-3 times the income, rather than work 2 hours a day and scrape by.
($10/h * 8h * 5days/week * ~4weeks/month = ~$1600/month. That's not a decent income anywhere around here, even after taxes.)
This also implies that anyone making $10/hr is employed full time, which often isn't the case. You're looking at, best case, 36 hours per week. MAYBE on a good week you'll make it to 40. And don't even think about coming in early or leaving late, those are fireable offenses.

@rdh @pinkprius it might be because I'm scandinavian, but I consider anything above 30 hours/week a full time job. The standard around here is 37 hours.
Requiring people to work more than 40 hours a week to earn a livable wage is inhumane and cruel, IMO.

Okay yeah I didn't think about how we shouldn't *have* to work 40 hours to get by, just that a lot of people making poverty wages would love to work more so they could pay rent AND go see a movie this year.
Oh, absolutely. It makes no sense that someone who works a full-time job can't support themselves.
